Asked to spend 2 hours on a take-home project, which comprised of both frontend and backend work, utilising external APIs. The ask was easily 8+ hours of work.
After doing an initial 2 hours (the brief was very clear not to spend more than 2 hours), I was asked to continue working on the project - being given two evenings to turn this over (the interviewer was aware I had a full time job). I delivered a working solution, however with the time constraints, and the fact that it was an interview project, not a production grade application, there were edge cases that were deemed unacceptable. When I offered to explain and describe what I thought was missing, what I would've done without the time constraints, I was denied the opportunity.
Interviewer also kept repeating how "tumultuous" internal processes were, and spoke of a lack of accountability within the organisation. I got an early impression of burnout and unrealistic expectations. Other team members were friendly and encouraging, citing it as a good work environment.
