For the most part, you meet some really kind and nice people. When I started working there was great. Had a great manager.

The company has not stuck to their initial beliefs and standards. When I was first employed I was made to believe that the company cared about employee wellbeing. When this was addressed, it was swept under the rug many times. I’ve had many colleagues share the shame sentiments. The company doesn’t care for your personal issues as well as the issues within the organisation and the challenges you face. Even though they’d encourage you to bring any issues forward, they honestly do not care. Bringing issues forward makes you a target. Unfortunately, this happened to me and I was worked out by management for bringing issues I faced relating to my direct report. Ever since I brought my issues forward to HR things went downhill. Truthfully, it’s not a company I can say I am proud to be previously a part of.

It is disheartening, however, to hear how your experience at 2U shifted negatively over time. It is true that we have gone through significant change over the past few years. While we regularly encourage our managers to reinforce the importance of time off and employee wellbeing, we understand this may not be consistent across the company. Even though you are no longer with us, we want to reiterate that we encourage 2U employees to speak up to their manager or HR Business Partner to report issues or any inappropriate workplace behavior. To hear you felt your complaint was not taken seriously is not in keeping with our guiding principles or values. 2U has an ethics hotline for employees, which permits anonymous reporting of issues. Coworkers across the org were amazing people at all levels. Years ago it was a very rewarding and special place to work.

Senior management (SVP and up and especially C-suite) is disconnected, lackluster, and has no plan other than to milk the company for whatever is left while they boast about how incredibly intelligent they are. The company went from a great culture (in spite of horrendous DEI policies between 2020-2024 that drove a wedge between employees who had differing points of view) to a cultureless hellscape where layoffs or fear of them were constant and brain drain was the norm as anyone who could leave did. Now a conga line of executives jump on board for ridiculous salaries as they make senseless course corrections while disregarding the advice of the few fantastic VPs and directors who remain- belittling them on calls and ignoring their expertise in front of their subordinates. Soon after their plans fail, they leave- much richer and with much more to boast about on their resumes as compensation declines and workloads for the lower level employees increase in their wake. In most cases, total compensation was reduced by nearly 25% a year for multiple years in a row since 2020 through loss of stock options, ESPP, and bonuses while layoffs contributed to a dramatic shift of workloads to some departments and employees.
