If you can leave any dignity and self-respect you may have for yourself at the door and you do not mind being micromanaged by managers and supervisors promoted beyond their ability, then ADESA UK may just be the place for you. Employees were over worked, undervalued and under appreciated by management who were in over their heads. During my time, most staff were unhappy and looking for alternative employment. There was always a high turnover of employees. ADESA UK have had some committed, passionate, and talented people working for them but have real problems retaining them. Work/life balance was extremely poor. Training and development were non-existent. The pay was poor. Career advancement seemed to be a closed shop. Man Management/Support from line managers was extremely poor. If your face does not fit, life will be made difficult with the intent of moving you on. I witnessed employees being bullied and/or intimidated on more than one occasion. Staff members with a good work ethic inevitably end up doing most of the work which largely goes unrecognised, unappreciated and is most definitely a characteristic that was exploited. . Company is extremely uncaring. ADESA UK's recruitment approach was ethically questionable at times as was the Health and Safety of their employees. Directors, middle managers, and supervisors are numerous. Communication at all levels was awful. Lack of respect from management, trust issues and micromanaging were all prevalent and made for a miserable working environment. Managers/Supervisors slagging off other Managers/Supervisors undermined authority, effected morale, and formed cliques. There seemed to be extraordinarily little logic behind decisions and even a basic ability to deal with common sense challenges and more importantly learn from them. This resulted in an extremely rudderless, directionless and inefficient operational approach. Everything ADESA UK seemed to do was over complicated and made more difficult than it needed to be. This approach resulted in a stressed and pressured working environment. Failing IT systems and infrastructure unfit for purpose would often make things much more difficult. Problems were exacerbated with unqualified/under qualified personnel being promoted beyond their ability to supervisor/management positions. Some realising they were out of their depth would delegate workload out or volunteer staff without any consideration of that employees work/life balance and any disruption/inconvenience caused. Obviously, they would then take the credit for any jobs done well. There were an exceedingly small number of managers who were incredibly experienced, hardworking and good at their jobs but unfortunately for them it must have been like swimming against the tide as a lot of their hard work was constantly undone. Massive disconnects existed between parts of the business. Misuse of existing resources and a complete lack of resources in other parts of the business were also incredibly frustrating and made the working day much more difficult. Yes, everybody got stuck in, but this was due to a lack of manpower which resulted in employees being asked to fulfil roles and duties outside of their contracted terms and skill set for no additional pay. It was an unsustainable approach and resulted in poor retention and high sickness rates. Support services were poor. The inspection technology and its development were farcical operated by inspectors who were under immense pressure to inspect as many vehicles as possible. It was very much a quantity over quality approach. Sales was chaotic and haphazard at the best of times. Low pay and poor commission rates with often unreachable sales goals. Sales seemed to spend most of their time rebuilding relationships with customers unhappy with the vehicles they had purchased. Should you decide to work here DO NOT be good at what you do. Management will only expect more for absolutely no reward. Those who are prepared to go the extra mile will be exploited. Document everything, keep a paper trail, trust no one and do not believe any promises or assurances made by management.
