Vantaggi
I was recruited through college campus recruiting into a role of Associate Application Developer. ADP onboards their fresh graduate hires through a six week training program on-site. The program is an amazing way to learn some of the stack ADP is using. I made many lasting connections with fellow developers and upper-management. The manager and team I matched with provided me with an amazing experience. I had come in with little experience but was given the freedom to explore my interests and create meaningful impact on a team and organizational level. This motivated me to learn quickly and take ownership of my solutions. I've been given plenty of visibility to upper-management and credit for my work. I've had the opportunity to help architect applications from the ground up and onboard/mentor new-hires and interns. I really appreciate the responsibilities I've been entrusted with as a young engineer. This environment allows a lot of growth for a person who wants develop new solutions and transform the way things are being done.
Svantaggi
ADP is in a massive shift right now from a service company with technology to a technology as a service company. With that comes a lot of revitilization of legacy systems. This is a huge transformation effort that comes with a lot of pain and resilience. Furthermore, ADP is still learning to get in touch with trends in tech companies. On an organizational level, the sales team is the center of ADP, and developers are not really heeded mind. It is difficult to see a company shape decisions, provide more incentives, create timelines, and provide massive support for their sales team and try to convince their developers that they're now a tech company. They didn't even let us take our monitors home during the pandemic. This is something I feel very passionate about and believe is a much needed change of mindset within the ADP executive committee. This mindset is causing them to lose talent that realize they can get a better experience at another tech company, in turn hurting their product.
