Vantaggi
Benefits are great, good coworkers, very nice workspace. They just renovated the building, and even cubicles get lots of light. If you become an employee there and want to move up, there aren't always lots of chances to, but when one opens up, they will definitely let you try out for it first. They use good systems here; software is up to date, there isn't a lot of red tape or bureaucracy, and the managers are competent and good at what they do here. I left AFGE, but I miss it a lot, and didn't realize how good I had it till I left. AFGE runs logically; things make sense here. I never thought that I'd have to put that down as a pro, but you'd be surprised. Morale is also good; the President treats the staff well, and tries to show us that he appreciates us. We get a nice holiday party during Christmas, and he has treats us to food when we have a tiring rally. Also, the fact that there is a nationally backed union that isn't an in-house union makes it a lot easier on the workers here.
Svantaggi
Depending on which union you get (OPEIU or CWA), your representation may be weaker or stronger. Not many complaints, except that some managers and employees might need some race and gender sensitivity training. I've had people say borderline sexual harassment/ racist things to me, which could have been prevented with some training; they weren't mean-spirited, just ignorant.
