Many thanks for sharing your current experience at AF. I'm happy that you're experiencing our high bar for student achievement. It's a national crisis that so many kids will never experience those kinds of expectations for their academic performance. But as you also rightly name - it's not the whole story. Our goal is not a high score on a test exam, it's to make sure our kids can succeed in college and come back to be leaders in our communities. And that means that we have to prepare them and give them opportunities that go far beyond strict academic preparation. While we're still growing in this area, without question, we've added extra-curricular programs during the school day (open to all students) in many of our middle schools these past two years, and we've expanded our quiz bowl, debate, and student government programs. With our Greenfield model, we've become a leading player in the ed-reform movement in trying to develop innovative ways to reach the whole child.
