Vantaggi
ActiveVideo has been around a long time and has gone through a bunch of changes. Their core technology is in cloud virtualization of video services for cable operators, etc. 5 years ago they were acquired by Charter Communications (#2 cable operator in North America) and Arris (now part of CommScope, a leader in telecom equipment and devices), so they have solid financial backing. Over the past 9 months they've been executing a pivot from hosting HTML5-based video apps in the cloud (paired with a thin client) to a new platform capable of running Android streaming apps in the cloud - essentially bringing the rich library of video apps to devices that are not natively Android capable (think millions of set top boxes) - while outperforming most native Android platforms and decoupling operators from the painful and expensive task of porting native apps to their devices and trying to keep up as those apps evolve. Very strong IP and product differentiation. The team is comprised of industry veterans who are smart and work together well in a highly collaborative environment.
Svantaggi
Much of the core engineering is done out of the Netherlands, which means lots of early morning meetings and the potential for cultural missteps. But there's an advantage to the team there working while the U.S. team is sleeping and vice-versa. Things move very fast.
