Vantaggi

I've recently begun working with Advanced.1 as a contractor through a recruiting agency. I applied for a drafting job, but scored high on the entry test and was offered a position as a Technical Services Specialist. Coming from a background of sales, I had no previous experience in any related field. On paper, I was totally unqualified and didn't even have a college degree. The only tech knowledge I had was picked up through previous years as a hobbyist. The reason I mention this is because I want to emphasize that this company gave me a chance to prove myself, which we all know is very rare in today's world. Most companies see no experience and no degree, and they automatically assume you're unable to do the job. So, I have everything to owe to this company for saving me from sales and giving me a chance to work in a field that I'm passionate about. For the entirety of my professional career, I've searched for a job that I can wake up excited to go to. I feel that I've finally found it with Advanced.1. Advanced.1 is a company that drafts designs for telecommunications companies in a software called Microstation. Employees work in designing and drafting all the equipment needed to give homes cable television and internet. With that out of the way, I'd like to state that I am still a part of the 6-week long training class for Technical Services Specialists. My opinions are largely based on conversations with other workers and what I've observed. I will give my opinion on what I've observed so far and my experience as a trainee. Before being hired, you are required to pass three tests: 1. Logical and Reasoning 2. Basic Computer Knowledge 3. Math skills. Each test is roughly fifty questions long. The Logical and Reasoning Test consists mostly of number sequence puzzles but also includes several other word problems you might find on an IQ test. The Basic Computer Knowledge Test consists of questions about extremely basic troubleshooting methods and hardware/software knowledge. The Math test deals with doing arithmetic with fractions, basic algebra, and other basic arithmetic. As far as I know, you are required to pass these in order to get the job. I passed these tests with scores that were quite high, so I was eligible to take an Advanced Computer Knowledge Test that was quite a big leap in difficulty. This determines your eligibility for the Technical Services Specialist position. You will start this position as an employee for a hiring agency called Adecco. This is a very smart move by the company, for it allows them to hire entry-level employees. If you prove you are able to learn the required skills, Advanced.1 will continue to provide you with whatever needed to be an expert. On the other hand, if you can't quite hack it, they will give Adecco a call and let them know you shouldn't come in anymore. This is not a job for people who want a short work day. Overtime is mandatory, and you will get plenty of it. It's a part of the job. A twelve hour day isn't unusual, but an average day is usually between nine and ten hours Mon-Fri. You will work a lot. The company and the hiring agency is very upfront with this from the start, so you can't say you weren't warned. I must have had four or five different people specifically ask if I am okay with working fifty-sixty hour work weeks before ever stepping foot into the building. Don't waste your or the company's time if you aren't the kind of person that can handle this. Also, this isn't a place that has much socializing. This is a production based job, so you're expected to produce at all times. Most people just put some headphones on, listen to a podcast or some music, and get to work. It's pretty quiet all around the office. The breakroom has a television and some tables, and they also provide free coffee, so most people will socialize here on breaks and lunchtime. There are two shifts available, early morning and night shift. Early morning gets in at 6:45 and leaves midday. Night shift gets in at 3:15 P.M. and generally works until 2 A.M. Most people I've seen are hired on for second shift. If you're hired as a drafter, you will attend an eight-week training course that will teach you the software. I don't have any experience with this class, so my knowledge of it is very limited. From what I've gathered, these classes look to be quite large, with 15-20 people attending. They seem to shrink as time goes by, though. The software isn't extremely sophisticated, but it can be challenging to learn. It's a lot to learn in a short amount of time, so just be ready to really put your thinking cap on. I am a part of the Technical Services Specialist Training group. We are a small group of 3 people trained by a single person. Being such a small class, we've become a real tight-knit group, and the trainer is able to focus one on one with us. In addition to drafting, we learn the how and why of everything as well. It's a fast-paced learning environment, so it's easy to fall behind. If you can handle it, the training is top notch, challenging, and fun. Our trainer has done an excellent job of creating an atmosphere of teamwork. He is extremely knowledgeable. He has a way of making you strive to be perfect in everything you do by constantly challenging you to do better. There are no excuses in this class, and Matt (our trainer) will see right through any bull (and will not hesitate to call you out on it, either), so my biggest piece of advice for anybody in this group to be honest and own up to your mistakes. All in all? Your job won't be glamorous. You won't work in a beautiful building with free snacks and handmade lunches, but you will be given a chance to prove yourself. I believe any company willing to take somebody with no experience or degree and commit to training them to do high-level work is an extremely good opportunity.

Svantaggi

I personally don't have any cons to working for this company. It fits my schedule, interests and work philosophy. Even though it works for me, these are some things I think others might have a problem with. - The overtime is mandatory, and the schedules aren't very flexible. - The drafting position can be extremely monotonous and tedious. You are expected to draft a certain amount of miles per week, and if you cannot meet these goals while maintaining excellent quality work, you will not succeed. This requires a lot of work. - You are initially hired through a hiring agency, and the pay isn't great nor the benefits. The job requires a bit of a sacrifice at the beginning in order to work your way to being a member of the company.

Svantaggi

You need to catch on quick, off you get left behind. Team are good, communication just wasn’t there. No room for advance ment. Employees are expected to work several different jobs but get paid for one. There are favorites.
