The leadership is essentially the CEO and CMO who run the company under an authoritarian style and marked by a behavior that often crosses into harassment. They regularly address employees in a belittling and reprimanding manner, speaking to seasoned professionals as if they were children. There is a pervasive sense that any issue is automatically the employee’s fault, or a sign of laziness, regardless of the effort invested. This mindset is demoralizing, especially for those who consistently give up personal time and work beyond their regular hours in an attempt to meet expectations. The PTO system is excessively rigid, filled with rules that make taking time off unnecessarily complicated. Several approved requests were later revoked, preventing employees from using even the legally required 22 days of annual leave in Portugal. The company tends to operate strictly at the bare minimum of employment law—and often in ways that feel insincere—leaving many employees hesitant to exercise their rights. The HR Manager is quite pervasive in the way he operates, sometimes it’s hard to say if HR doesn’t know or doesn’t care about Portuguese law. You have to be very careful and know and assert your rights.
