Vantaggi
The team is young and highly diverse with team members from different countries. So there is a diverse mix of people passionate about the field they work in. If you want to be surrounded by top notch talent, we're talking very intelligent, kind people in a smaller company setting, you've probably found a good match. The CEO is French, so some may perceive cultural differences from that - lunches tended to run long. If you come from somewhere where you just ate lunch alone at your desk while working, it's not the expectation here. Compared to other small employers in the NYC area, I think the benefits were excellent - long vacation time, premium insurance, and now I understand there's a 401K. You will also have a large workspace. For non-Americans, the company is really willing to help with visas.
Svantaggi
During my time at Altanova, it always seemed that the company struggled to articulate what exactly they do or a set identity outside of the word "sustainability". Even then, not all of the project work necessarily concerned "sustainability". Employees should be able to give a 30-second elevator pitch to explain to someone what a company does, there wasn't one and that reflected in the business. Management needs to double down on creating a set, achievable vision or identity for the company to grow. Because there are so many smart people involved in the company, discussions routinely went on on for hours without takeaway or follow through. Also, while I think the large workspace is great - the building housing the office and the office space itself sometimes left a lot to be desired.
