Vantaggi

I worked in a database-related apartment. Uses c++ and worked on database internals which implies skills in memory management, concurrent programming, and database fundamentals. Overall I'm learning at my spare time if not working. Weekly working hours are around 50 hr, peek can be 70 during critical releases which is normal when you are responsible for a project end to end. Managers are great, colleague are nice, and everyone is busy. Workload and pace is fast here like a startup.

Svantaggi

The CI-CD process is not good, Dev experience is bad because of that. Not friendly to people who want to keep a good work-life balance. Learning on your own, don't expect people to babysit or help you hands-on. No green card sponsorship in 2023 and 2024

Vantaggi

Ambitious projects if you're in the right team. Typically great team-mates. Don't believe the memes, the ppl are not back stabbing jerks but are overall genuinely nice. Not constrained by budgets when building cool things. Tools while sometimes clunky are powerful.

Svantaggi

Schizophrenic lack of focus, entire teams get split, merged and upended multiple times a quarter. Some product managers are disconnected from reality. It didn't use to be the case, the PM-Ts were previously top notch. You're pushed to vibe code everything. Established products with loyal customers are getting neglected. Newer VP level leaders don't seem to know what they are doing. Veteran OG VP level leaders are either leaving in droves or seem stressed or checked out.
