Vantaggi
Since Andela was initially mission-driven, they’ve occasionally been able to attract good talent so some of the employees are genuinely kind and thoughtful individuals.
Svantaggi
The revenue management changes very frequently and the lack of leadership continuity is deeply reflected in everything from an incohesive culture to large gaps in reporting data and lack of processes. It seems like several layers of management are under duress and also feel frustrated by the company-wide disorganization and the tension is generally deflected onto their direct reports. The company is shifting from being loosely self-defined as a "tech company" to being a software development outsourcing company. The restructuring has been clunky with lots of lay-offs (of several teams) and band aid internal solutions which make for an awkward feeling in the offices. Andela has a bizarre oscillation between demonstrating white savior tendencies and dehumanizing the software engineers by referring to them as a “product”. This is really not the place to go if you’re looking to work in any sort of start-up or SAAS environment. Even though the company touts their series D funding, they’re much more dysfunctional than most other companies of this size and stage of growth. If you end up accepting an offer, you’ll quickly feel like your work doesn’t make any sense and your manager is also quietly aware of this, but doesn’t want to raise any flags internally. You’ll be able to last a year if you join in sticking your head in the sand and helping everyone wantonly burn through the VC dollars.
