When I began my employment at ANOVA, I vividly recall gazing at the feminist artwork adorning the break room walls. However, these were just images. ANOVA purportedly operates on feminist ethics and principles, yet my experience within the organization painted a different picture. Although they offer numerous resources for individuals identifying with femininity or those in proximity to it within the community, my actual work experience there was far from aligning with these ideals. Upon joining ANOVA as a part-time employee, I was promised the addition of a "relief" colleague to assist with the workload, which never materialized. Consequently, I found myself juggling the responsibilities of three roles simultaneously. After weeks of minimal support from management, I mustered the courage to voice my concerns. I sought clarity on the hiring of the "relief" staff, only to be met with evasive responses. I also raised safety apprehensions and addressed the unrealistic labor expectations imposed on part-time staff, all of which were not heard. To my disbelief, I was terminated within a week of bringing these issues to light. It appeared that ANOVA's commitment to feminism was conditional on not being employed by them. I felt exploited, manipulated, and disillusioned by a company that professed feminist principles yet exhibited exploitative and apathetic behavior towards its employees.
