Vantaggi
Most of the IT employees below senior management have a genuine desire to perform well, work-life balance is OK depending on who you work for, pay is at market if you are willing to kick and scream to get what you want. Work out of San Jose and you get free breakfast, unlimited snacks, fruit, sodas, juices, bagels, muffins, cereals, two k-cup machines with dozens of coffee, cappuccino, and cocoa flavors, tons of creamer flavors. Work from San Jose and come into the office anytime you want; SJ staff begins arriving ~10:30 am.
Svantaggi
Phoenix, where headquarters is located and vast majority of employees, employees treated like second class citizens. Coffee available in Phoenix breakrooms (one flavor, not good), powdered creamer. Six months ago, they took away the plastic forks and spoons from the break rooms in Phoenix under the guise of cost-cutting. Now you have to bring your own utensils or "steal" them from the cafeteria, which is frowned upon. Ask if San Jose lost any of their perks (spoiler alert: the answer is no). Outside of the food and flexibility perks in SJ, the great IT talent has been streaming out of this place over the past six months. The top architects, developers, system engineers, security engineers, and line managers have left for greener pastures over the past year. IT staff tired of the constant re-orgs and downsizing. Promotions are based on little more than how well you can spin how poorly your team is actually performing, and this is all the way up to the CTO level. Such a shame as Apollo Phoenix was a great place to work 2-3 years ago.
