Vantaggi

Outstanding employees produce quality work and encourage one another. Employees show up to work even during inclement weather or events that warrant all other area businesses and the federal government being closed. Headquarter employees exhibit perseverance, professionalism, and grit. Surveyors travel almost 100%, yet still deliver quality results in spite of the crushing work load they are given. The diner downstairs is convenient and has good food. There is a gym that is open even on weekends. It's always a bit of a toss up guessing whether you will wait 1 or 10 minutes for an elevator to the 12th floor whilst simultaneously freezing. It's hit or miss whether you should sprint for the elevator or risk waiting until the next one decides to come around. The building is often colder than the temperatures outside in the dead of winter. It is convenient knowing that your coat will be worn both inside and outside of the office building. That makes it easy to get dressed in the morning! Good transition job to pad your resume and move on to more money and a better work culture.

Svantaggi

The executive duo (CEO and President who are married) creates an emotionally draining environment for their employees. Upon interviewing with this company, prospective employees are told that the executive duo prides itself on Ascellon's excellence and innovation. The only innovation that takes place at this company is the creativity and commitment required by the executive duo to actively denigrate and micromanage employees on a daily basis. The only excellence that manifests itself is the pride employees take in their work despite continuous disrespect perpetrated by the President and CEO. There is a revolving door at this organization. In my time working there, a handful of people quit without notice due to management's antics. Ascellon has been in business for over two decades. That fact is thrown out whenever their communication style, lack of effective management, or lack of training/infrastructure is brought into question. Employees that report directly to the executive duo at HQ rarely make it more than a year. Those that stay, once they realize how horrible management is, are denied promotions and raises that are standard at other companies where employees produce quality work. Reasons for not being promoted or receiving raises are usually first cited during performance evaluations. Often times, the employee was never counseled or made aware of stated issues until it was time to go up for a promotion or raise. This ensures they do not receive deserved raises or promotions. That comes across as nefarious and erodes at any semblance of trust that already exists between management and staff. The President stated that he does not care if his employees are unhappy because he is the boss and signs the paychecks. An email was also distributed encouraging employees to take a walk at lunch, drink some water, and adjust their definition of appreciation when it was brought to his attention that his employees were unhappy and feeling unappreciated. Essentially--gaslighting. Business success at this organization appears to be measured only monetarily. There is a lack of knowledge (or care) around the emotional intelligence required to create a sustainable framework, especially once its founders retire. Success at Ascellon appears to be measured by the number of government contracts that can be acquired while ignoring there is a lack of staff and infrastructure to support said contracts. At Ascellon: Contract quantity supersedes company quality. Revenue acquisition supersedes investment in human capital. Admin employees are overworked and underpaid, yet are expected to execute projects individually that require a team. You are told you are entry-level upon hire, but are expected to produce mid-level/management level work-but still with an entry-level salary. There is little training upon starting at Ascellon, yet new employees are expected to learn how to do their jobs and just "figure it out." If employees err, either due to lack of training or having too large a workload, they are yelled at, threatened, or told they are incompetent... that is if they are not flat out fired without explanation or cause. There are many frivolous policies at Ascellon that exist to show the power of management (and show how dated their management style is)-like not being allowed to put your coat on the back of your chair even if it's cold in the office or not being allowed to wear open toed shoes, even in the summer. These rules serve no purpose other than to uphold this imaginary image of excellence they want to promote. If this was a Fortune 500 Company that saw high-profile clients coming into the office on a daily basis, ok. But it's not. As hard as the employees work, in an uncomfortably cold office without many perks, what's the big deal with open-toed shoes and coats on the backs of chairs? There are many young black people who come to Ascellon for the explicit reason of wanting to be mentored by a black female CEO and a black male President. Instead of management seeing the opportunity they have to mentor and raise up a new generation of black and/or female business leaders (and also build a sustainable future for their company), they bully and foster a fear-based mindset. Ascellon operates off of a fear/fixed mindset vs growth mindset: from the lack of effectively using existing technologies, to the 1990's dress policy, to even how they respond to employee dissatisfaction. The question many in the office ask is : Who are they going to leave their business to once they have run away everyone under the age of 40? Ascellon employs young people with a plethora of strengths-from education, to military service, to work experience, to social media expertise, to even business acumen. However, they refuse to see this and rely on what has worked for them since the 1990's. That mindset is currently contributing to the demise of many businesses; a refusal to grow, change, and welcome a different perspective other than that of previous decades. Lastly, the CEO has made inflammatory remarks about the LGBTQ community and veterans in the presence of people belonging to those groups. She is so out-of-touch with her employees that she does not even realize there are members of those groups in her presence while she makes these statements. She speaks ill of people's appearances and speculates about their personal lives in business meetings, even if they have been out of Ascellon's employ for years. Showing submissiveness to avoid emotional abuse and being complicit in a culture of intimidation are required to function while employed at Ascellon Corporation.

Vantaggi

I have nothing positive to say about Ascellon itself, but the coworkers I worked with were genuinely great. Without them, the experience would have been far more unbearable.

Svantaggi

Employees are overloaded with crushing workloads due to being forced to handle multiple roles Pay is unacceptably low compared to similar positions at other companies Compensation does not match the level of responsibility or effort required Constant multitasking across roles leads to exhaustion and burnout Persistent high stress with no relief since starting the role Effort and workload feel unrewarded and undervalued Overall conditions make the experience extremely draining and unsustainable
