Vantaggi

- You get paid money to work here.

Svantaggi

- Pay below average - Health care doesn't start until 2 months in. Never seen this before in previous jobs. Wouldn't you want to support your employees and help them focus on their work instead of worrying about health care? Many people commented on this, but nothing changed. Archaic and ancient. - Not eligible for quarterly bonuses, company HSA contributions, and company 401k contributions until after 6 months in. This company is full of people who have been there for many years, but some people simply might not stay for that long, so it feels outdated and not in alignment with other competive tech companies. I've worked at other places where the benefits were so much more generous, and it truly made a difference with how I approached and felt about my work. - Extremely conservative financially. I knew of people who often bought their own office supplies and meals with clients, even though the company can afford these expenses and should take care of their employees. - Hourly pay. People who had salaried jobs before might feel the difference here. Many eat lunch in front of their computers while working. Taking time off for an illness, mental health day, or vacation feels very calculated because you “earn” a limited amount. So, I found burnout to be high. - Dogmatic approach to pair programming - Contractors on projects to save money. I felt there was a different dynamic and culture. - Cares a lot about external reputation, but I found that some people are disingenuous, not empathetic, and not trustworthy. - Internal complaints about clients, but then they were so nice to their face in meetings. - In office requirement 3 days/week, but often not honored by everyone, so what's really fair? - Unrealistic expectations of employees and deadlines. - Unequal amount of PTO given to people. Some “earn” more time to rest, others “earn” less. So, you might have people who are burnt out but simply don't have the time to recover. By their logic, if you have less experience, you don't need to rest as much? - Crude jokes, loud and distracting environment at times. - Marketing that you care about people vs actually caring about them are two separate things. I wish I never worked here. I didn't quite drink the kool-aid, and they didn't seem happy with some questions I had about policies, dynamics, and behaviors.

Hi reviewer, We’re sorry about your negative experience at Atomic Object. We deeply value employee feedback, and we want to thank you for taking the time to share your perspective. Since our start in 2001, we've strived to build a workplace that encourages our teams to thrive. This means regularly revising our policies and benefits based on both industry standards and employee input. In response to your concerns: Compensation and Benefits: Our pay is annually benchmarked and our benefits package is comprehensive, with eligibility criteria and timelines typical for our industry. This includes profit sharing, a competitive PTO policy (4-6 weeks based on career experience and tenure), holiday pay, fully-paid healthcare premiums after a 60-day waiting period, and an opportunity for employee ownership. We also have a 401k plan available from the start date. Work Environment: We believe in fostering a positive work environment. This includes reimbursing business-related expenses, offering professional development opportunities, and nurturing a culture that values quality and best practices in project execution. We also emphasize a sustainable work pace, with most employees averaging ~41 hours/week. Use of Contractors: On occasion, we engage with trusted contractors when specialized knowledge or additional capacity is required. We assure you that the cost of contractors is not less than our W2 employees. Our detailed benefits and practices are transparently outlined in our job offers and on our website: https://atomicobject.com/careers#benefits We will take your feedback into account as we continually seek to improve our workplace. We wish you the best in your future endeavors. Shawn Crowley + Mike Marsiglia Co-CEOs

Vantaggi

One of the best things about Atomic is the culture of trust. You’re truly treated like an adult. People believe in your judgment, and you have the freedom to make decisions without being micromanaged. The team itself is made up of incredibly smart, thoughtful, and genuinely kind people, which makes collaboration both easy and enjoyable. Leadership is also a huge strength. They consistently show up with a “high support” mentality and really invest in helping you succeed. The work stays interesting because every client, industry, and problem space is different. It feels like constant learning in the best way. There’s also a sense of openness and transparency across the company that’s refreshing, and you usually know the “why” behind decisions. And the flexibility, both in schedule and in how you approach your work, creates a healthy balance that’s hard to find elsewhere.

Svantaggi

There isn’t a lot of structure at Atomic, and while that can be freeing, it can also be challenging depending on your working style. If you’re someone who needs clear processes or step-by-step guidance, you may find yourself creating that structure on your own. In my role, I enjoy that independence, but I can see how it could feel overwhelming to others. The pace can also be fast, simply because consulting requires constant context switching and adapting to new clients. It keeps things interesting, but it can be tiring. Another mixed bag is growth. I’m constantly learning, and I’m encouraged to expand my skillset and deepen my expertise within my role. That part is genuinely great. But at the same time, there isn’t really another role to grow into. In my position, development mostly happens within the boundaries of the job itself. So while there’s plenty of personal and professional growth, the path upward is less defined simply because there aren’t many additional steps in the ladder.

The Accelerator Program is built around direct peer-to-peer mentorship. From day one I was staffed on a full-time, real-world project with multiple senior developers, all of which were ready to aid in my development as a software consultant and developer. I started the position without any technical experience outside of my college degree. This was the expectation and I didn't feel like I was missing out by coming in with different experience. The focus on in-person collaboration made it even easier to see what it was like to be a software consultant and developer. The variety of different projects that I've worked on has made me a well rounded professional and has exposed me to more technologies, problems, and people than any typical product company would. I feel that my time at Atomic Object has truly accelerated my career, skills, and experience surpassing other professionals with similar time in the workforce.

Svantaggi

The type of work that Atomic does might not be for everyone. Consulting means switching projects relatively often. Folks looking for the same day-to-day job might not be a good fit for consulting. The emphasis on in person collaboration means living close to the office, and being in office regularly. If you don't see yourself making that commute every day then Atomic Object might not be a good fit.
