Disappointing lack of recognition and care for long-serving employees My experience of Aviva is shaped by how they treated someone very close to me who dedicated over 20 years of service to the company across multiple roles. After such long-standing commitment, you would expect at least a basic level of appreciation or recognition at the end of that journey. Unfortunately, that wasn’t the case. When she retired due to a serious cancer diagnosis and returned her equipment, there was no acknowledgement — not even a simple thank you or card to recognise two decades of contribution. This isn’t about grand gestures — it’s about basic human decency and valuing people beyond their output. Moments like this are when a company’s culture is truly revealed. Aviva talks a lot about values and people, but in this instance, there was a clear gap between what is said and what is done.
