During my time at Avtrade, the company presented itself as a professional and structured organisation, but my experience in the warehouse was quite different. Pay progression was extremely limited, and any request for a review or raise often seemed to trigger a conveniently timed “letter of concern” or disciplinary process. This tactic effectively reset any progress toward promotion or pay review — meaning that an employee could spend months meeting every target, only to have the clock restarted and be forced to wait another six months once the warning expired. In practice, this cycle could drag on for a year or more, creating a sense of constant uncertainty and psychological pressure. It felt like a subtle but deliberate form of professional sabotage. The management style in the warehouse was particularly concerning. The management often took a personal disliking to certain employees and would either set supervisors to penalise them or encourage supervisors who felt similarly to take action. At the same time, some employees were treated favourably or largely ignored, making the behaviour particularly difficult to pin down or challenge. This approach rewarded and validated poor management and unprofessional behaviours, allowing the management to avoid direct accountability while maintaining control through their team There were many instances of selective discipline that highlighted this pattern. Certain employees, including myself, were singled out for relatively minor issues, even when similar behaviour by others went unchallenged. These incidents illustrated a culture in which personal favouritism, rather than objective standards, determined who was disciplined. When employees raised valid concerns, the response frequently followed a pattern of denial, reversal, and deflection — classic DARVO tactics (Deny, Attack, Reverse Victim and Offender). Those who spoke up often found themselves portrayed as the problem rather than being supported, creating a culture of fear and low trust. There was also a strong sense of surveillance and micromanagement. CCTV footage appeared to be regularly reviewed to scrutinise staff behaviour, casual conversations across departments were discouraged, and even moments of light-heartedness could be treated as unprofessional. In relation to disciplinary processes, Avtrade follows documented procedures that are designed to be fair, consistent, and compliant with employment legislation. Disciplinary sanctions are issued only when necessary and a fair and legally compliant process is always followed. Your feedback regarding communication, trust, and workplace culture is noted. Avtrade aims to foster an environment where employees feel able to raise concerns openly and constructively. To support this, we provide several avenues for reporting issues confidentially, ensuring they can be fully and appropriately investigated with no fear of judgement.
