Vantaggi
Since the name of the firm is not well recognized, there are almost no pros to working here. At least at other firms where you don't get any career help, you have a decent line on your resume.
Svantaggi
I really wish I could give a positive review. Deborah Lehr has an impressive background, and I joined the firm out of an excitement to work with a woman leader in the field. Unfortunately, I never got to learn what that was like. I got to speak to her twice in passing (when she came to pick up something from the office) and once for about 15 minutes in a “performance review” that came without warning. She was kind but offered practically no career advice, support, or connections. This is not necessarily a problem - many high-level executives have little time to spare. But for Basilinna, the firm takes on many interns for months upon months, paying minimum wage while expecting consulting-grade professionalism and work product that is normally required of full-time management consultants (who get paid far more). Internships in the industry are supposed to last ten weeks and materialize with an actual full-time offer, either from the firm itself or from advice or connections that people in the firm helped with. Basilinna uses Lehr’s admirable career to underpay recent graduates by falsely promising career help as a tradeoff for undermarket wages and health benefits. As an executive of a company, Lehr completely drops the ball in all aspects of organization and human resources. She’ll smile when stopping in and send cookies to the office every few weeks in a shallow attempt to seem like she cares about the employees that run her firm’s day to day, but the reality is that working for Basilinna is taking a huge risk in committing your full time effort for only a small chance at that materializing in your future. I worked there for half a year and felt this way -- I know colleagues who worked a year or longer and had the same result. I can’t speak to Lehr’s expertise or knowledge because I barely know her; a terrible sign from someone who did whatever she asked for many months.
