Biomeme can be an exciting place to get experience doing a lot of different things that you might not be able to do at a larger company -- a very typical startup experience. I worked with a lot of really brilliant and understanding people here and made lifelong friends.

Much of the bonding with my colleagues was due to an intense level of toxic office politics. A lot of sneaking and scheming by one person in particular. Upper management seems to favor those that put in extra work hours (working on company holidays, working every weekend, etc.) and ignore their personal lives for the company. They are very interested in hiring folks without kids/families to best achieve this rhythm. There is not a lot of opportunity for advancement here and no real promotion tracks like other companies tend to have. There is a very flat hierarchy, which has led to a lot of disorganization. Great ideas are often ignored by management. Certain people tend to own tasks that they really shouldn't, simply to remain in power. Questioning much of this will put you in a bad position unless you already have clout. Many people complained about the lack of diversity at Biomeme, so their answer to this was to hire dozens of people of color for unskilled assembly labor jobs, but no representation in management. These people were then pushed to their absolute limits and put in unsafe situations, with no ability to push back.
