- There’s a lot of people-pleasing in this job — with surgeons, staff, and even your own trainers. Dinners, coffees, and constant flattery are part of the culture, and it can feel like success depends more on kissing butt than actual performance at times. - The competition between companies makes things tense, and even a little hostile. You’ve got to be sharp and confident because there are always other reps watching your cases, ready to jump in if something goes wrong. - As a clinical specialist, you’re trained to stand behind your company’s products no matter what — even when you know there are better ones out there. That’s hard if you’re someone who doesn’t like to fake it. - You’ll run into some big egos in this field — surgeons and staff included. As a clinical specialist, you’re always the guest, so part of the job is keeping things smooth and professional even when others are being difficult. - There’s not much work-life balance while you’re training. And once you’re out, if you don’t want to get stuck with the surgeons no one else wants, you’ll have to grind — lots of overtime to level up fast.

Work life balance, great high functioning local teams, small territories, company cars, pension, great technology that constantly evolves.

Marketing and senior leadership is completely out of touch with the field. 20 years of industry dominance squandered by failing to adapt to new technology, basically overnight. All of this could have been avoided buying a specific company or devoting time to building PFA tech before the other companies. It can be extremely difficult to move into a sales role as a clinical, especially on the ultrasound side. Almost all companies have a path from clinical to sales, except for BWI/ j an j MedTech. Promotion pathways and role leveling has changed 4 times in the 6 years I’ve been here and not once has it had any positive effect. Extremely difficult to understand commission pay structures that always seem to eat away at what you should be taking home. What was once the best pension ever has been removed in favor of a lump sum payout. Pay is less than other similar companies and you are made to feel you can’t leave because of pension and benefits.
