Vantaggi
So far my time at BSD has been good overall. The intent is there across the company to be best at what we do for our clients that do good work across the world. Likewise, in most policies such as parental leave and time off, there is effort to provide quality benefits and value to your time as an employee. Managers do a good job advocating for their reports to take time off as needed. For the most part everyone is welcoming and friendly. Only a few are disingenuous about this and have unfortunately been allowed to get away with it for too long by playing favorites. Executive Team and local leadership makes themselves available, but this doesn't necessarily mean they are all approachable and receptive. It's easy to take for granted that at most companies you don't get that ease of knowing that the people you spend 8+ hours with everyday have similar progressive views and ideals. Blue State has cultivated an environment that allows you to feel safe being yourself.
Svantaggi
It is all becoming very stale. The leadership, the work, and their "Progress". Although the company is fun and casual, it is very cliquey, and particularly amongst much of the leadership. The cliques in local leadership are incredibly obvious (gossiping openly in the office, obvious) and are in desperate need for new and diverse leadership to break up these toxic dynamics across the company which do very little to foster an inclusive work environment. The work is not always the most interesting or innovative. There seems to be more dry client work that's churned through to pay the bills than ever before. The opportunities to push ourselves creatively and strategically are often stifled by impossible deadlines and being spread thin. As another reviewer stated, maybe there is a little bit too much drinking of their own koolaide. If you're going to have progress written on your walls, then you have a responsibility to live by those words. Between the cliquey social dynamics, lack of substantial diversity, and vague pay equity, it's hard to see where the real progress is. Would love to see less talking the talk and more walking the walk.
