Vantaggi

Bombas has historically been an amazing place to work, ranking consistently in the top 100 places to work. The benefits are great and they find ways to get everyone involved!

Svantaggi

I had three different black managers leave Bombas because of gaslightlighting and microaggressions, and they dont have many black employees to begin with. This behavior is pretty common in the legacy employees who have been in Bombas for 7+ years. Bombas also changed a lot during the pandemic. Prior to that, the company was amazing but things slowly changed and the company left its start up roots to pursue more of a corporate ladder climbing culture. There are people in the ELT that really have no clue what they're doing, primarily on the brand/creative side. These people got the job due to clear nepotism (e.g. their qualifications include them going to summer camp with the founder in the northeast, not joking). I'd also be wary of the marketing team as they operate like an agency. Long hours, weekend meetings, and constantly changes to the spend forecast or campaign strategy. It's very exhausting.

Vantaggi

The socks are comfortable, and the company remains mission-driven, which is commendable. There are some truly kind and wonderful people who work there. That said, the overall environment leaves much to be desired, as the saying goes, misery loves company. The culture has a way of pulling people down rather than lifting them up, and despite the good intentions and bright spots, the day-to-day experience can be draining.

Svantaggi

If you want to grow here, you’d better have a manager who actively advocates for you and pushes for your promotions. Otherwise, you’ll find yourself stuck in the same role indefinitely, the only real way to move up is by leaving the company. Favoritism is a major issue amongst legacy employees and/or people who suck up to the VPs, and job security depends on relationships and not on performance. I can specifically speak to instances where high-paying roles, including VP positions, were on the chopping block, but the COO and CEO personally stepped in to protect them. If you’re part of the ‘inner circle’, the legacy aka the favored clique, you’re essentially shielded from layoffs, which happen multiple times a year. In some cases, they’ve even created new roles out of thin air just to retain certain people. They would go as far as create new roles or make them IC if they are people managers. It’s a deeply political environment where advancement and stability rely less on merit and more on who’s in your corner.
