Since they had taken over an already established child care center, our hourly rate was higher than other employees of Bright Horizons. Basically, there was an agreement with the former employer to try to maintain salary levels. Unfortunately, we went from salaried professionals to hourly employees.

You will use an iPad to over document the children’s day. The children will get so used to the iPad that they will try to grab it as it is always nearby. Your attention and time will be spent mainly on tapping into different parts of the iPad from documenting to signing in and out for meal breaks. If you care about young children and early childhood development, do not work here. Your attention will constantly be pulled away from the children. They will also make you sit at a computer for hours long trainings of their own making (plus mandated ones, of course) as they seek to minimize their liability for anything. My beautiful, caring and developmentally-appropriate classroom became a place where there was pressure to worry about “paperwork” over people work. The school had beautiful, age appropriate classrooms and outdoor spaces. We were told that the youngest children could no longer use the classrooms nor the outdoor space they enjoyed and which supported their development over many years. So the children’s daily experiences were drastically changed in multiple ways. Many parents and teachers fought this change to BH but our expertise and opinions were disregarded. They is a high turnover rate for BH from what I understand and there is a good reason for it. Oh, and employees at other locations have been arrested for abusing children, so theres that too. How horrid. As soon as we heard BH would be taking over, many teachers planned to leave and they did, including me.

Do hire a diverse population of teachers in terms of age, gender ethnicity and orientation. Children as always are there if you're doing this job you love kids

Most sites do not offer a set consistent schedule, using rotating shifts. The lack of staffing and support will force staff to also never be able to plan things such as break time. Rigid with sticking only to curriculum from Company book even on days when severely understaffed. Even if you are hired specifically for a particular classroom where you are most familiar and best skilled to work, they will often push you into things such as infant or toddler even if you have physical limitations such as back, bending or carpal tunnel. Very inflexible about your PTO if it doesn't fit in
