Vantaggi
- Interesting applications of technology, hang with and learn from the big players in telecom/networking - Relatively low bar; if you're semi-competent, you can probably get a job here, maybe even for competitive pay because they are kind of desperate - Still some good people there
Svantaggi
- Many experienced engineers have left recently, including the top two software managers within the past year or so - The new managers and principal developers are relatively unskilled in software development and not trained in management, yet arrogant and condescending - The upper management is very old-school, the owner of the company built it from scratch but can't let go of micromanaging and trying to get people to work harder by threatening them To the last point, over the past two years there have been at least 4 or 5 different "HR generalists" at this company. One lasted less than a week, the most recent around 4 months. There is a serious morale problem which can't be papered over with contrived, cliquey "social committees" and other nonsense. Management favoritism abounds. Not many perks and a counterproductively strict 8:30-5:30 workday with no WFH unless you are a management favorite. The core software product is built around Flash (!) and a lot of legacy code. Newer developers have a very thin understanding of what the core product actually does, and it's hard to learn due to complexity and poor documentation.
