It's been said a few times and it's true, there are a lot of extremely positive reviews on here because HR has been specifically asking people to fill out positive reviews. It's unethical but not surprising. There are some great HR people at CAS, but some who care nothing about employees and only about their own compensation. In some divisions, it's not about how good you are at your job but entirely about who you keep happy and who you make look good. If you're not making your boss happy, they'll make you miserable until you quit, or they'll fire you. Didn't happen to me, but I saw it happen to a bunch of other people. In 5 years I saw 15 people quit, retire early or get fired out of a 16 member team. One position had 5 people cycle through it in less than 4 years. These aren't "bad apples" as management liked to say. These are very competent professionals who didn't fall in line and do what they were told, when they were told. They tried to make change and improve things which had the effect of pointing out that "the way it's always been done" or "the way management wants it done" isn't actually the best and therefore, makes management look bad. Work/life balance doesn't exist. It just doesn't. Managers brag about working late and talking to each other late at night. People with kids get snide comments and pushback when they need to take time off for sickness or other stuff. I deliberately skipped some events for my kids because they happened during work hours and I didn't want to deal with the comments from management. Vacation is hard to come by. I was warned early on that asking for 2 weeks of vacation was not a good idea, it was "too long". There were always a lot of people at the end of the year with "use it or lose it" time. For some it was almost a badge of honor to show they worked too much. When I started I loved it, but now I can't, in good conscience, recommend to anyone that they should look for a job at CAS.

Most standard colleagues are great. General Frontline Managers are considerate when it comes to WFH flexibility.

Toxic work environment if you have any ambitions, are transparent about inefficiencies or ask too many questions. You will be seen as combative or problematic. If you are a high performer that is not a yes man this is not a good place for you. There is little to no space for career development if you are good at your job, congrats that is where you will forever be. They also keep laying off people because C-suite decided to invest too much in AI too quickly and now they don't have money and no one is buying these new products at a good enough rate to actually support said investment. It is a nonprofit that is being run to the ground by non scientists.
