I'm just going to combine Pros and Cons together here: I've been working at Code2040 for quite awhile now and the first thing I want to do is validate and acknowledge the other reviews on here. The organization has gone through some really tough pain points that has had damaging effects and outcomes on staff members and their experiences. And I am extremely grateful for those who have voiced their frustrations with the org, whether directly or indirectly. It's feedback that needed to be heard. I also want to acknowledge that things are shifting at the organization and that a lot of good people with good intentions are stepping up to shape our culture to be something that empowers employees. I'm seeing power being distributed across the org to reflect this. So I commend the folks involved in this critical work. It's necessary change and it's already producing positive outcomes for our staff so that they can continue creating opportunities for Black and Latinx folks. I want to be transparent that I had a moment when I really felt like leaving Code2040. It was when I became fully aware of all the toxicity that used to sit within our culture. But I made the choice to stay, and it's because I believe this org and its leadership is willing to do the hard work to redefine and build our culture to represent something that we are proud of. If I didn't believe this, I would 100% no longer be here. Racial equity and transformative culture work is freaking hard. It's draining and as an organization predominantly made up of people of color, we are no exception to that hard work internally. I and others here have committed to seeing this internal work through, to be involved in creating a positive culture for ALL staff, and to support leadership and hold them accountable in making our vision a reality. There are dope people who work here and go above and beyond for our community (internal and external) and I hold pride in being part of this movement with them. If you are thinking of working here, understandably, there will be concern around the negative experiences of former/current staff members. You are totally valid to feel that concern and I push you to surface it during the interview process - unapologetically and with no guilt or fear. I myself am sharing my experience with applicants whenever I can to help them make informed decisions. I have also relaunched my own efforts to share Code2040 job opportunities with my network as I am hopeful and confident in where we are and where we are going. But this is my individual perspective. I know that others at the org have their own views and experiences to share, so please, don't be afraid to ask. I believe this is a good place to work, I believe this is a super important mission, I believe working here will push you to grow in ways you never thought you could and I believe in the people I have the honor of working with. I hope this is helpful to those of you looking to learn more about us and those who are considering Code2040 as their next career opportunity.
