Customer service takes a distant second place to "shareholder value", resulting in destructive and senseless cost cutting measures (staff cuts are the default option here) aimed at driving up the short-term share price. Staff are treated as disposable assets, and a drag on the bottom line. Senior management bonus system penalizes long term planning. Often poor (or non-existent) training, always inadequate staffing with unreal expectations and production goals. Adversarial management system complete with disciplinary quotas for managers which fostered multiple discipline investigations and punishments (up to and including firing) for imaginary violations of non-existent rules. Managers are willing to bend, or even break, rules and regulations, both company and government.
