- There are some genuinely nice people that work here, unfortunately those people can be few and far between. - Some departments are more organized than others, where you may have a better experience. Some teams are better at acting as a team and being supportive of one another. Although, this also means a lack of communication between teams. In a nut shell it’s a bit cliquey, this is work so I’m not saying to be friends with coworkers, I’m more so alluding to the lack of a welcoming environment where teams form cliques. It can feel hostile. - Benefits package and paid days off - Some interesting work

This is not the company to work for, often times on Glassdoor you may feel that it’s just one person’s experience and that your experience may differ, but I urge others browsing here to listen, the company culture is TOXIC. The CEO is great and there are some great people in this organization and at the top, but the issue lies at the department level. You will hear a lot about One Fund but there is no integration or unity between the departments or teams within a department. - Like other places in downtown TO you will encounter the top companies in the industry, CPPIB is no different and relies on its reputation to excuse workplace practices. There is a competitive environment where people will be thrown under the bus. People are unwilling to ask questions in fear of being seen as less smart, this creates additional problems where some people feel that their competence must be constantly justified. - Too many social events and they rarely achieve their goal of getting together as a team - High turnover, yes this is a large organization but it appears the average tenure is quite low for a Finance department. People come and go, there are many new joiners, many of whom are former big four and continue to implement “big four” practices. At the same time, big four would be a better experience, yes it is that bad. - There aren’t many people who have been a part of the Finance team for more than two to three years. Where are all the previous employees? I suspect there was a layoff or restructuring? - The bonus culture create competitiveness that is unhealthy and it doesn’t help that people are eager to climb the corporate ladder. Within my team it was clear that some individuals would like to throw others under the bus to make themselves look better. - Not everyone is meant to be a manager, some people should just not be in a managerial or leadership position (this applies to Managers, Directors, and above). - HR has no idea what they are doing on the recruitment and retention side, this is a serious problem. CPPIB could be studied in business case studies and what not to do, as for as HR matters are concerned. - There is more

They are diligent in responsibly investing the pension fund for Canadian citizens.

The company claims to be progressive, but its roots are inherently as conservative and bureaucratic as it comes, stemming from the government. The hierarchal structure is extremely limiting in terms of being nimble and adaptive. If I want to talk to a director, I need to literally go through my own director first before even contacting them. Everyone is looking over everyone’s shoulder out of fear and a starvation mindset. This is a decent stepping stone if you have the ability to improve yourself, otherwise this is not even close to a higher tier investment firm and the leadership is a reflection of that.
