Vantaggi
Work from home Semi-flexible hours Good editing resources PoCs are helpful and quick to respond Good to get some experience in scientific editing.
Svantaggi
Very low pay for the amount of work required - various other jobs are hidden inside that require a lot of time to complete. It is very difficult to hit the minimum pay threshold. Before you sign up they do not fully explain all procedures, for instance "effective word count" means assignments do not count for the number of words it says they do making it harder to meet the threshold. The internal review system (Quality Index) is wildly inconsistent and being conducted by non-native English speakers meaning you will spend hours arguing with their decision making. The company threaten you by telling you QIs below a certain benchmark may lead to your contract being terminated. No PTO or sick pay. The quality of English in assignments also massively varies - sometimes the English is very good and you can invest time into improving the overall writing and sentence structure, other times the English is so bad you are effectively trying to decipher what the author means - This can take a very long time and you are not compensated for it. You would need to be editing VERY fast and at a high quality level to earn any money doing this job. Honestly, if you are UK based you will often be earning less than minimum wage per hour.
