Vantaggi
- Work atmosphere was typically relaxed - Coworkers were generally nice to work with, if there were any harassment supervisors handled it well - Lots of breaks - Paid decently (for the time), good benefits, start with 3 weeks of vacation, retirement compensation, salary grows yearly - Good long-term career if it's right for you
Svantaggi
- Working shift work, there are two shifts, you shift between evening and morning shift means you wake up very early for two weeks, then you come home late for two weeks. When I was there there were no night shifts, but you may come home past midnight often. - No entire Christmas week off, but you have holidays still - If you're ok getting dirty (blood, abscess getting on you occassionally), bad smell (occassionally when fans stopped working), and seeing pig carcasses every day for hours then this can be a job for you - No upwards career growth, although salary grows slightly by a few thousand dollars every year, there is no promotion or major increase in pay unless you become the supervisor (unlikely) as those spots are usually filled. However, it can be a stepping stone into transferring to other government positions. - contract workers can get laid off, as there were restructuring at the time almost half of the contract workers were laid off or relocated to a different CFIA location. Only permanent employees won't be laid off. - Some harassment and hard to work with coworkers sometimes
