CRC has a beautiful mission and attracts really great and dedicated staff. Unfortunately, it abuses people’s motivation and imposes on them horrible working conditions. Contracts are almost always temporary (3 months, 6 months…) until they are obliged by law to make you permanent. While a temp, you have almost no benefits at all (incl. no pension contributions). People are forced to do overtime and they are expected to not declare them. Salaries are much below the average in the not-for-profit sector. Even when one has stood with them long enough to become permanent, they only offer 6-month mat leave and zero top-up. Internal processes are a mess and it’s a highly bureaucratic organization, meaning that a lot of workarounds are needed, systems are inefficient, and everything works at an incredibly slow pace. In an environment where quick action is needed, it is the employees that pay the price: most people are overworked, stressed, and unmotivated. HR is not helpful at all in solving conflicts and tends to either ignore that a problem exists, or make them even worse. The turnover is very high, and often that leads to a huge loss of institutional memory, making it harder for new staff's onboarding. It’s a pity, because the mission of the organization is great.
