This included working hours that would make the most fortified mind into complete mush and employees who went on long diatribes that easily distracted management were often rewarded for "high level" intelligence. A general lack of maturity in the office. Lots of temperamental egos, especially at the most senior levels. Easily hurt feelings don't encourage a lot of trust or respect. Add to that a lot of rather violent mood swings and it was easy to mistake the office for a day care center. Pay is far below industry standard at almost every level. Very unscrupulous intern policies. Sexist terminology actively used in corporate philosophy. As with many start ups, employees are encouraged to give their last drop of energy for the good of the team while management did little to inspire, motivate or match such commitments. Essentially what you have here is every tech start up cliche you're ever seen on Silicon Valley. A lack of both racial and gender diversity, a lot of fragile egos prone to petty and vindictive territorial pissings (over crumbs), and, probably above all else, an obsession with image. More effort was put into the company's vibe and image than was ever put into the company's foundation, structure or culture.
