Vantaggi
Work / life balance is very good which is the main reason most people work there. This to me is a pro and a con at the same time.
Svantaggi
Where to start? Terrible IT infrastructure. I would avoid this company if you like to work properly with any kind of alacrity, the abysmal IT systems are a real drag to your day, there again if you love a good reason to moan and drag your heels this could be a pro I guess. The building I was working in (Gresham St.) was terrible, I have worked on building sites where the office toilets have been cleaner and that is no exaggeration. The air conditioning doesn't work and people are continually getting colds, infections etc. which I believe is due to poor quality air flow within the building - and they don't pay sick pay for the first 12 months of employment (but no one will tell you this before you sign up). Management and leadership of teams is none existent. They give out token gestures here and there which are mainly self serving, often facile in the face of what you might be trying to communicate and egotistical ways of affirming their own positions without ever actually listening to what you are trying to say. This is frustrating but always very revealing about the nature of the business and where they are failing to adapt their internal management structure. Their seemed to me to be and undercurrent of us versus them where they have integrated several companies and the old core of each was not really buying into their new organisation which is not really surprising given the lack of leadership. There are many older staff who simply seem to by biding their time and stuffing their pensions while they wait for retirement. This is not really conducive to career progression for mid level surveyors and unless you are lucky and are placed with people who take responsibility for their work (and there are some) you will find it difficult to adapt as there is nothing really to adapt to in terms of culture. Unless you enjoy being a stooge or you want to adhere to the Capita mentality of high handed hypocritical management who are all getting paid a fortune while paying less than market rate to their employees I would say there are better employers who, even if they don't pay better (and I would say the majority do), will offer you a much more enjoyable environment to work in which doesn't make getting out of bed so difficult.
