Vantaggi

The people who work here made it worth coming in every day, and being surrounded by books was an added bonus. If you are trying to get into libraries but don't have experience, this system is a great place to start.

Svantaggi

No opportunity for growth, HR is extremely unprofessional and rude, a jarring disconnect between admin and frontline staff, policies are unfair and only apply to frontline staff and not the admin team, expected to come in early to prepare for the day without being paid and understaff (for obvious reasons). I think that the admin team is grossly unaware of how unhappy their staff are and will continue to lose great people.

Vantaggi

This is a good job for those that are interested in a Library Career or just need a job. They will hire with no experience as long as you have your degree depending on the position. Most frontline staff are friendly and are willing to help those without experience to gain experience.

Svantaggi

The funding for the library system is low meaning you have a little budget and a low salary/hourly wage. Even with a small budget and low pay, the library system has high expectations for staff that aren't realistic with the limited time and resources that are provided. Your off-desk time for getting work done isn't guaranteed and working on desk it not allowed. It's expected for you to do work at home occasionally while being off the clock (book club preparations, learning the collection, etc.). If you have experience, it won't matter. You'll get paid the same amount as someone that is new to the field. You will never exceed expectations on performance reviews because merit raises aren't guaranteed. Your hours won't be consistent, you'll work mornings, evenings, and weekends. There claims to be an open-door policy, but it is not taken seriously. You can discuss concerns, ideas, or issues, but you will never receive feedback and be told "If you are not happy here, then you can leave". For an organization with less than 100 employees, the communication is not great. Cross department communication is frowned upon. Changes are made suddenly without any explanation. There is no room for growth due to limited positions and only certain people getting chosen for promotional positions.
