Vantaggi
CE grew from humble beginnings organically. They took no venture capital and are thus beholden to no one. They grew to where they are today living by the simple maxim, "Don't buy it if you can't afford it." It's such a simple concept, yet you never hear of a software company that thinks this way. CE is the exact opposite of a pump-and-dump. They've been around for 14+ years and their mission is to just keep doing what they do, which is being the leader in the recreational venue payments space.
As an engineer, you'll be on one of two teams. You'll either be working on the client-side product that the users interact with day-to-day or the backend web services that do all of the coordination and integration with various third-party web services. Each team has its own pros and cons that are endemic to the kinds of products that they are.
What you won't find at CE is a bunch of people running around with their hair on fire. This company takes work/life balance seriously. You also won't find a bunch of huge egos. Now if you walk in with one, you may get put in your place, because there's no shortage of competence either!
Svantaggi
You should be aware that like any company that been around for 14+ years, the codebase is enormous and written with an inconsistent variety of tools and languages. So depending on what you're working on, you may run into some ghosts from Christmas past lurking around in there.
If you're not based in NC, it can feel a bit isolating being 100% remote. The company operates on east-coat time and you're expected to conform with that which may mean having to attend a daily standup meeting at 7:45am or earlier...
