Vantaggi
Supposedly a very safe and stable job; however, there were a lot of layoffs when the company acquired Vectren. However, the incentives are consistent, pay is average, and hardly anybody needs to work more than the standard 40 hours.
Svantaggi
Because of the stability and the overall slow-moving nature of the utility industry, the company is not up to speed with other workplace practices. Promotions are very slow and very much experience over merit-based. Pay and benefits are either at or below average, never above in anything. The worst thing right now is the removal of benefits. When I started at the company, you'd get 2 weeks of vacation till 5 years and then 3 weeks after, and you could buy a week of vacation, so that'd push you to 3/4 weeks. However, they removed that and now you get 3 weeks at 5 years up until 13 years when you get the 4th week. 3 weeks is not a good vacation policy. They also recently cut sick time. Regarding Covid-19, there has not been a word about covid in months, besides the reinstatement of the mask policy. No WFH options and a fully staffed office, despite being remote for 15 months.
