Some good people and clients to work with
Svantaggi
Chaucer are very good at making things look good. However, once you scratch the surface you soon realise that many of the promises made are empty. Poorly communicated constant changes alongside bad hires at a senior level have lead to Chaucer’s culture becoming toxic, with expectations to overwork and sacrifice your mental health for no return or thanks. Nepotism is rife, with reward and promotion based on popularity rather than performance and feedback. Leadership say they’re transparent over and over again, yet offer no proof of this. It’s change after change, always poorly communicated, and never for the better. There are not enough career opportunities, and it is likely you will get put on lengthily projects that are not aligned to your ambitions or expertise in a scramble to staff client requests. Chaucer’s attitude to diversity is poor, with inconsistent application of flexible working policy for those who need it, favouring those who are liked by leadership, rather than consistently applied fairly. Diversity is pushed on to marginalised groups to solve, with no empowerment given to make the multiple changes required. Chaucer are on a journey to expand, however, with no consistent strategy, poor leaders who exhibit bad behaviours over and over again and a lack of fairness or transparency, it is best avoided. By becoming a ‘firm’ they have sacrificed the values that used to make them a uniquely good place to work.
