Vantaggi
Love most of my coworkers. I also enjoy getting to meet new people at my tables, and in the past money has been great. It’s a safe workplace.
Svantaggi
Corporate has just absolutely ruined the environment and flow of the restaurant as of late. There’s always been a rule in Darden (the corporation that runs the restaurant and others) that revolves around a Guest Satisfaction Score, or GSS. Basically at the guest’s table, there is a ziosk where you can pay, put in appetizers, etc. and you can also pay your tab there. At the end, it’ll give you the option to take a survey to let us know how your experience was. Managers always say that their satisfaction with things like cleanliness and the food are SEPARATE from their satisfaction with the waiter’s service, however that’s not always the case. If a customer is upset with how their food turned out or how long the kitchen takes to make it, they give generally lower reviews and half the time, they blame it on the server or put the low score under the server’s section in the survey. This makes it seem as though the guest is unsatisfied with the entire experience and the server gets blamed. The scores are averaged out each week, and if someone is below a certain score, your table section could be cut down all the way to ONE. The managers always make a big deal about not messing with our money, but this absolutely messes with our money if we only have one table every hour. That’s maybe 5 tables in one shift. Our general manager’s boss has apparently forced our managers to increase how many servers are on one shift. So even on days we are slow, there could be like 10 of us there for no reason. Which also messes with our money because we have to wait an hour just to get one table. Then they refuse to cut anybody until it’s pointless to do so because the dinner shifts are about to come in. Then there is the problem with the kitchen. None of them communicate to us, whether it be a language barrier or they straight up ignore us, I think it’s both. But we will have to yell into the kitchen in order to get someone’s attention and they still do not acknowledge that we said anything. Half the time, the food comes out wrong, cold, or it takes 20+ minutes to get something as simple as chicken tenders, all because they’re incompetent. The managers have repeatedly told us that if our food comes out wrong, it’s on us not the kitchen. Make it make sense. The managers refuse to make the kitchen take any kind of responsibility when they mess up, and they don’t tell them to fix their attitudes which are AWFUL. Most of them are rude and disrespectful but nothing is said to them. They just get praise for doing nothing. Then there is the problem with just the managers alone. They don’t care about us, as most people there feel. They’re more worried about gossiping in the office than they are with helping front of house. They actually have a group chat where they give us all nicknames (mean ones) and talk badly about us, like a teenage girl clique. They treat certain employees better than others and absolutely favoritism is a thing here. I don’t feel valued while I’m at work, I make poor money because they keep hiring new servers when we don’t need them then putting twice the amount of people on shift than what is needed, and it’s just overall became an unfortunate workplace.
