Bernie Fry down at the mine is one of the most inconsistent managers I've ever had the displeasure of working with. Throws temper tantrums that rival my 4 year olds. They hide violations from MSHA and hide obvious ecological hazards from the corps and EPA. It's a clown show. I spent about two years there and got one single raise after the 90 day probationary period. Forget about any sort of schedule, if you have a family, and need to plan events and other things, STAY AWAY. You do not know when you're getting off for the day, and they act like it's taboo knowledge. They gatekeep the hell out of simple courtesy information. The guys that I worked with were some of the best people I knew, and they deserve better. You can expect to work anywhere between 8-12 or more hours every single day, and from what I understand; they're working Saturday and Sunday now too. They'll reel you in and treat you well in the beginning but it certainly doesn't take long for their true colors to show. I'm afraid the problems stem all the way from the top and trickle down the the rest of the managers. Look elsewhere, this isn't what you're looking for- I promise you. You'll be promised and guaranteed more responsibilities, and better pay but it will not happen. You'll be sworn up and down that you'll get into a different machine but it'll never happen. They're going to do everything they can outside of actually doing the thing- butter you up with words to retain you as an employee- but you'll be wildly disappointed. To top it all off, more than half the equipment there is a death trap. It's a lawsuit waiting to happen, and it would be a damn shame if something finally gave out while you were in it causing a catastrophic failure. It's extremely dusty, and you breathe in all of that silica- which causes permanent lung damage called Silicosis, their solution is to run a water truck- but it is NOT enough. They'll tell you to roll up your window so you don't breathe it in, but how are you supposed to run and operate equipment in these hot Georgia summers without aircon, or a system that is running off of hopes and dreams. The trucks themselves emit an egregious amount of heat and exhaust fumes. It's a lose lose situation. I rate this employer a generous 1 star, due to rating limitations. I know that the job market isn't very hot right now, but there are still other people hiring that need you, and will treat you better than these people here ever will. The owner stated a little while ago as of this posting that they will finally start matching the 401k to catch up with the rest of the world. This is something most companies provided as far back as the late 70's and early 80's. They're not just years behind the industry standards, they're DECADES behind. Last year they promised to hold safety meetings every month and reward a couple of people in each division a hundred bucks randomly with a name-in-the-hat method, that happen two or three times and never again. They just stopped doing it. With that said I guess I wouldn't be surprised if this whole 401k thing gets swept under the rug while they hope no one calls them out on it. I could go on and on about this company but at this point it would be redundant. If you exist as a sentient human being, and wanted to be treated as such- I strongly advise against considering this employer.
