The culture at Civic is extremely welcoming and from the moment I joined I felt genuinely supported and included. The people here truly care about each other and bring a strong sense of purpose, kindness, and passion. Leadership is collaborative and approachable, creating an environment where ideas are valued and trust is shared. There’s clear alignment to the organisation’s values, which shows up in consistent, authentic day‑to‑day behaviour across teams. I’ve been empowered to make meaningful contributions from the start, with plenty of space to shape initiatives and drive impact.

Honestly none that feel significant. Like any evolving organisation, there are processes still being shaped—but that’s part of the excitement if you enjoy building and improving things.

Unfortunately, I did not experience any meaningful advantages in this role. The work environment, management approach, and growth opportunities were lacking, which made the position difficult to sustain long-term.

There is a consistent expectation to work extended hours, often without compensation, which has a negative impact on work–life balance. Some technical leadership styles limit open discussion and reduce opportunities for team members to contribute to decisions. Gaps in specialist expertise in key roles frequently result in additional or reworked tasks, including work that is later deemed unnecessary. Additionally, frequent political challenges lead to unproductive and time-consuming debates rather than constructive outcomes.
