Vantaggi
The teams were always a highlight, which is not surprising for hospitality. The fellow baristas understood one another and it always helped to know that in a difficult shift. As a supervisor, it became a little more difficult to navigate this, but if you were promoted internally in that team, it was only a small hurdle.
Svantaggi
The higher management discriminated harshly against those with learning disabilities. Promotions were rarely considered for disabled employees, and those gunning for them were met with a lot of barriers. If there was a disagreement between a supervisor/barista and a manager, higher management would always cover for the managers even if their behaviour was disrespectful. The sickness policy is awful. If you are sick 3 times in any amount of time (weeks, months or years), you are issued a disciplinary, leading to 6-month probation, and if you call in sick in that period, you are on probation for a year! If they don't deem your sickness "valid enough", you are shamed for it, and the only excused absences are emergencies. Even if you are vomiting on shift, they won't send you home even though it's a food safety risk.
