I've been working for Cochlear for quite a few years and I can honestly say the company (or rather your workgroup) has complete understanding and trust when you got to work from home due to personal reasons or what have you. Also, the company is filled with really smart people, willing to make a difference in someone's life; very few company can say their work does change people's life and this one is one of those.

Unfortunately, the company wants to become a corporation, meaning the bureaucracy has grown exponentially and management believes the best course of action is to introduce another 7 layers of managers to each department. Some of my colleagues have 3 to 4 different bosses for the same project, all of them screaming the project has to be finished soon by one engineer and they compromise on more stuff to do every day without expanding the engineering pool. The CEO (and the so-called sponsor team) has grown a little too far in the marketing area and truly believe the company needs to become a store of sorts, cutting down investment on the development and increasing it in marketing/sales, wasting most of the money on events that gather little to none interest of partners or regions we want to grow in. It seems to me the good old days of this company are long gone and I am just watching its downfall.

Toxic work environment where we are required to work overtime to meet project deadlines but are not compensated fairly. Bonuses are not always paid out even for stellar performance.
