At College steps Inc, I work with students with disabilities and help them utilize college resources, provide support in class and help explore pre-vocational options. The pros of being a Peer Mentor is a very flexible schedule and are scheduled with students/mentees who have the same availability with us, working on college campus and off campus is available to those who do not want to be on campus due to the pandemic. Program Coordinators are very accommodating to peer mentors and communication between staff and peer mentors is excellent.

No benefits whatsoever (no health insurance, paid time off etc) paid time off is only available organization employees not peer mentors , can be extremely difficult if you are not used to dealing with students who have a variety of different disabilities in particular, we deal with students with autism who have their own strengths, weaknesses and personalities so be prepared unless it will be overwhelming.
