Vantaggi
Stable and predictable. Finding a good manager and team is essential to your experience at Collins. The experiences vary so much depending on finding a place that suits your goals and needs. The work was always interesting as long as you're proactive about finding something you like. However, the type of work is limited and the software technologies are dated compared to what the current job market is looking for in terms of software engineers. There are a few groups in the company that work on newer tech, but again you'll have to be very proactive in finding them.
Svantaggi
Work life balance is non existent. The company likes to claim it is performance based pay and focuses on employee engagement. This is all nice rewording of "the more hours you work the more you'll get paid" but the raises are very mediocre. There were a few good years but unless you are also getting a raise and promotion expect to stay just a bit above inflation if you are an average/high performer. As a Sr Software Engineer, new grads were getting paid very close to my current salary coming into the company, even with getting high performer raises for close to a decade at Collins. Benefits used to be fantastic. It has definitely tanked over the last few years. They used to have overtime pay, good 401k matching (above most of the industry) and decent healthcare. Recently we are now among the lower-mid range of 401k matching and healthcare premiums went up significantly over the years for less benefits/higher deductibles.
