As an event manager: Very long hours during event set up, run and break down You're almost always working outside in the elements Incredibly labor intensive (loading and unloading trucks, moving lots heaving equipment, setting up large tents... all of this is done sometimes without assistance if your staff doesn't show up) Sometimes you travel to literally the middle of nowhere Often times the staff that is supposed to help with the event does not have enough volunteers (which makes for an even longer day) If you're asked to do something that wasn't included in your training, it's pretty much up to you to figure it out Equipment is often not in good working condition As a "full-time" employee: The pay is incredibly low The training is inadequate There is no follow up training or development, but you HAVE to hit your goal... or else. Hard work/results delivered are not recognized They only focus on the negatives and do nothing to foster a positive work environment, but expect you to be positive all the time You have a ridiculous number of supervisors (non of whom want to take responsibility for anyone's development/growth) One owner is completely removed from the management of employees, while the other owner makes off color remarks to and about his employees (even told one employee he would never be in outside sales because he was gay and that's not the image they want to project)
