Despite appearances as the 'best computer shop in New Zealand', this thinly veiled guise is under some serious mismanagement. And behind this guise is laddened with abuse, toxicity, 'bro-culture', and a resistance to change; which is why i've likened it akin to a sweatshop in a first-world country. Employees are given tongue-in-cheek responses, cussing out employees is a regular occurence, employees coming-and-going is a regular occurence, the managers shun change, and 'bro-culture' language and actions are of the norm. Overtime is normal, unpaid overtime is also normal due to the fact that there is no clock-in system, so you have to go out of your way to apply for overtime. Shortly after I joined, it was revealed to me by some whistleblowers that this company has had cases in the past where employees complained about human rights abuses and subsequently left the company. I can attest to this toxic work culture, and this is backed up by the high employee turnover rate. As this is a relatively small company there isn't much room for vertical growth, and you can definitely rule out ever becoming a manager. I used to think that this would be a good company to work in for all the customer goodwill it has, but now i definitely think otherwise. Overall it's a pretty bad long-term job outlook, okay as a stepping stone towards something bigger and better. Is the entire package worth close to minimum wage and a guaranteed 45+hour week? I don't think so, but maybe this is what you're looking for.
