People were laid off out of the blue a few times a year, so it had you always waiting for the axe to drop on you, so to speak. I was there 6 years, was laid off, with 2 weeks notice and received 2 weeks of severance pay, which is one paycheck. After 6 years, I would have expected at least the graciousness of a month's pay.
