Vantaggi
Had some good coworkers, some of my clients I adored and the work felt super rewarding. Good benefits package, good way to practical skills in the field mostly.
Svantaggi
Oof where do I begin: they have awful pay for the amount of micromanaging they do. If you are just a regular employee and not in any kind of management position, you are nothing to them. Like you are just a workhorse to drop everything for a client instead of a person. Management, well specifically one of the managers is one of the most robotic humans I have ever met, like they truly like to push the heirarchy that employees are lower than management. Management have no real life experience either, just a bunch of privileged people. They will put you in dangerous client situations even if they say otherwise; there are some clients who REALLY need two workers per session but naw, they force you to deal with it alone. I also felt like my managers didnt teach me anything useful; took me forever to learn about bc housing applications, and I did NOT learn about that at Connective. Lack of employee appreciation as well, even the staff days just feel like big corporate training sessions. Not ONCE did we have anything done for the staff purely for fun. There is a reason why there is such a high turnover; the pay doesnt match what they ask you to do. You see managers doing nothing, going on breaks together, gossiping together yet we get in trouble if we go past 10 mins on our lunch break. If you need to do paperwork in the office, they wont even let you sit down for a minute without hovering over you and asking you to do coverage. They also overload you with work: while other organizations have dedicated housing workers, dedicated social workers for refferals. The outreach workers are expected to move heaven and earth. They are about optics: like reading alot of their reviews, so many of them I can tell are in weird PR speak. I think if they truly cared, they would take way more input from workers and not let higher ups have power trips. Hiring is also interesting because they have such a high turnover, they are hiring anyone at this point. Met coworkers who are transphobic, racist, sexist; one of the male managers flirts with everything that moves. Coworkers with covid conspiracies, coworkers without cultural competency or harm reduction knowledge everywhere. This place is growing like a business not an organization and we all already see it imploding on itself.
