Vantaggi
None, all the pros left or were terminated. All puns intended.
Svantaggi
Well, it's Trader (of autoTrader.ca fame). What does that mean? Commitment to Thoma Bravo's goals for short-term top-line revenue uber alles. Lack of understanding around either customers or the team. Convertus was a place of empowerment and autonomy: give people freedom and support to innovate, because a company of innovaters will always outperform top down rigidity. Trader believes in nanomanagement, a unit of management that goes beyond micromanagement to ensure total adherence to the status quo, and follows very strict hierarchical values. Never challenge authority (even if the authority is moronic), do as you're told, etc. Trader also falls into the sales trap of promising customers the world, but only having the operational sophistication to deliver a child's crudely drawn picture of the world. That means that if you're in a customer-facing role you get to deliver nonstop bitter disappointment, and if you're in a product role your deliverables are so thoroughly obscured through a film of competing priorities and organizational politics that even if you want to build a great thing - they won't let you because it doesn't generate SHORT TERM CASH NOW. The only reason Convertus even exists outside of the main Trader umbrella now is because the core Trader dev team in Burnaby is unionized, and Convertus is a non-union shop. Someone should give the union a call - nudge nudge, wink wink.
